Verder leven in Srebrenica

Srebrenica is, na Sarajevo, misschien wel de bekendste stad in Bosnië. Vroeger was dat vanwege de natuur en het nabijgelegen kuuroord. Nu is dat vanwege de bloedige geschiedenis en de genocide die het stadje kende.

“Veroordeling Congolese rebellenleider Lubanga mijlpaal”

Het Internationaal Strafhof heeft dinsdag een straf van 14 jaar cel opgelegd aan Thomas Lubanga. Lubanga werd in maart al schuldig bevonden aan het ronselen en inzetten van kindsoldaten jonger dan 15 jaar. Ondanks dat hij altijd volgehouden heeft onschuldig te zijn, hoorde hij zijn vonnis vandaag gelaten aan.

Brazil: champion of late truth in Latin-America

Brazil is booming. The economy is expanding and the country is getting ready to host the Football World Cup in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016. But the Latin American giant has not even begun dealing with its dark past, ruled by a dictatorial military regime from 1964 until 1985. 27 years later, on November 18th, President Dilma Rousseff signed a law establishing a truth commission.
